Flagship • Open-now / Business-availability API
NightOwl
NightOwl is the flagship Rachel Products API for open-now and business-hours availability decisions, built for local-business and restaurant-style developer integrations.
This page reflects the current product state. Access and pricing are coordinated through the current access and pricing routes while the surface continues to mature.
How teams use NightOwl today
- Resolve whether a business is open now, open later, or closed.
- Support hours-aware user flows for local-business and restaurant discovery experiences.
- Integrate through the current API surface with access/pricing pathways kept explicit.
Why open-now is hard
Building accurate open-now logic seems straightforward—until you need it to be truthful at scale. The gap between a simple schedule check and production-ready availability decisions is where most projects stall:
- Business hours are messy: Overnight shifts, multi-day windows, irregular schedules, and last-minute changes are the norm, not the exception.
- Time zones matter: A business in Los Angeles that opens at 9am is still closed in New York—even if your server thinks it’s “morning”.
- Real vs. expected: published hours often don’t match reality. Holidays, staffing issues, and sudden closures break static assumptions.
- No single source of truth: Google Business, Yelp, and third-party APIs each have coverage gaps and lag times. You still need fallbacks.
NightOwl helps by providing a deterministic evaluation engine that works with the schedule data you provide. For production use cases that need external verification or coverage expansion, we work with you to layer in reliable data sources while keeping the API surface consistent.
